Type of format Audio

MPEG-1 Audio Layer 3, more commonly referred to as MP3, is a digital audio encoding format using a form of lossy data compression.

It is a common audio format for consumer audio storage, as well as a de facto standard encoding for the transfer and playback of music on digital audio players.

MP3 is an audio-specific format that was co-designed by several teams of engineers at Fraunhofer IIS in Erlangen, Germany, AT&T-Bell Labs in Murray Hill, NJ, USA, Thomson-Brandt, and CCETT. It was approved as an ISO/IEC standard in 1991.

MP3's use of a lossy compression algorithm is designed to greatly reduce the amount of data required to represent the audio recording and still sound like a faithful reproduction of the original uncompressed audio for most listeners, but is not considered high fidelity audio by most audiophiles. An MP3 file that is created using the mid-range bitrate setting of 128 kbit/s will result in a file that is typically about 1/10th the size of the CD file created from the original audio source. An MP3( http://astore.amazon.com/powermp3cutter-20)file can also be constructed at higher or lower bitrates, with higher or lower resulting quality. The compression works by reducing accuracy of certain parts of sound that are deemed beyond the auditory resolution ability of most people. This method is commonly referred to as Perceptual Coding. [1] It internally provides a representation of sound within a short term time/frequency analysis window, by using psychoacoustic models to discard or reduce precision of components less audible to human hearing, and recording the remaining information in an efficient manner. This is relatively similar to the principles used by JPEG, an image compression format.

Jewelry Gold

World leader (- -)

In the western Indian city of Surat , nearly a third of the population of 3.5 million work as diamond-cutters and polishers. According to industry figures, three-quarters of the world's diamonds are cut and polished in Surat .-- Nareshbhai Ishwarlal Degrawala and his two sons Alpesh and Sailesh work in the industry.--

Family business T T

After a quick breakfast,Oh Alpesh kick-starts his bike and, with his father on the pillion, traverses the roads of Surat to the factory, Karp Impex Limited, where they work. Nareshbhai has been cutting diamonds for 32 years now. Alpesh is relatively new to the profession - he has been there only five years----

Close watch - -

Security is tight at the factory. Workers are issued identity passes, which allow them entry into the workplace. Armed guards stand around the entry points, keeping an eye on the comings and goings.' Inside, close-circuit television cameras cover every bit of the factory, relaying pictures to a multi-screen. "But, we've never had any problems with our workers," says a Karp Impex official.---

Modern technology o_o

Karp is fully computerised. When Alpesh began work, computerisation of the industry had already begun. But father Nareshbhai says when he started work, the conditions were drastically different."We used to work in a hot, dark room, sit on the floor and work with our hands. "Today, we've got advanced tools; we sit comfortably on tables and chairs. And the factory is air-conditioned. It's much nicer now."---

The NASA Columbia Supercomputer.A computer is a machine that manipulates data according to a list of instructions.

Computers take numerous physical forms. The first devices that resemble modern computers date to the mid-20th century (around 1940 - 1945), although the computer concept and various machines similar to computers existed earlier. Early electronic computers were the size of a large room, consuming as much power as several hundred modern personal computers.[1] Modern computers are based on comparatively tiny integrated circuits and are millions to billions of times more capable while occupying a fraction of the space.[2] Today, simple computers may be made small enough to fit into a wristwatch and be powered from a watch battery. Personal computers in various forms are icons of the Information Age and are what most people think of as "a computer"; however, the most common form of computer in use today is the embedded computer. Embedded computers are small, simple devices that are used to control other devices — for example, they may be found in machines ranging from fighter aircraft to industrial robots, digital cameras, and children's toys.

The ability to store and execute lists of instructions called programs makes computers extremely versatile and distinguishes them from calculators. The Church–Turing thesis is a mathematical statement of this versatility: any computer with a certain minimum capability is, in principle, capable of performing the same tasks that any other computer can perform. Therefore, computers with capability and complexity ranging from that of a personal digital assistant to a supercomputer are all able to perform the same computational tasks given enough time and storage capacity.
